Learn how the Seated Resistance Band Row can strengthen your upper back, improve posture, and support better mobility with this simple at-home exercise.
A Strong Back Helps You Stay Independent: Try This Simple Seated Row at Home
As we age, the muscles in our upper back naturally become weaker. This can lead to poor posture, rounded shoulders, neck and shoulder discomfort, reduced balance, and difficulty performing everyday activities. The good news is that you don’t need a gym to rebuild your strength.
How to Perform the Exercise
The Seated Resistance Band Row is a simple, low-impact exercise that can be done from a chair or wheelchair. Secure a resistance band to a sturdy anchor, sit with good posture, and slowly pull the band toward your body while squeezing your shoulder blades together. Return to the starting position with control. Continue rowing for one minute, rest as needed, and repeat.
Why This Exercise Works
This movement strengthens the upper and middle back, rear shoulders, and core muscles that support good posture and shoulder stability. Stronger postural muscles make everyday activities like sitting upright, reaching overhead, pushing up from a chair, and using a walker easier and more comfortable.
How Often Should You Do It?
Aim to row for one minute, rest as needed, and repeat three times a day. As your strength improves, gradually increase the resistance of the band while maintaining slow, controlled movements and proper form.
